One of the most important weapons in the fight against gingivitis is your toothpaste. If you are using the right one, you will easily be able to prevent the build up of plaque and bacteria that so often leads to gingivitis developing. Many of the toothpastes that are on the market however, are not particularly useful for preventing this gum disease, si it is important that you know which one to choose to offer the best prevention.
The act of brushing itself is responsible for removing much of the plaque that is beginning to form on the teeth, but you also need a paste that is able to kill the bacteria that leads to plaque formation. Most toothpastes do not in fact contain this anti-bacterial agent and that is what makes them largely ineffective at preventing gingivitis.
Mint oil is a very powerful agent for removing bacteria in the mouth and around the teeth and gums. While most toothpastes are mint flavored, they do not generally contain a high enough amount of the mint oil to be effective. In addition, many types of toothpaste contain an ingredient called ammonium laurel sulfate – this is the frothing agent and it is also found in many shampoos. Unfortunately, it is a known allergen for many people.
If you want to use a toothpaste that can really prevent gingivitis, as well as protecting you from allergens, it is a good idea to change to a natural paste that contains a good amount of mint oil. Such pastes are able to remove bacteria effectively and prevent side effects such as canker sores, which have shown an increased risk of occurring as a result of using commercial detergents such as ammonium laurel sulfate.
There are some excellent natural products that you can find to protect your teeth and gums and stop gingivitis from occurring. Some of the natural products can also be used as a two in one product as a paste and mouth wash. They tend to contain high amounts of the mint oil, which means that your mouth is left clean, plaque and bacteria free.
By choosing a paste that is natural and contains a high concentration of mint oil, you will be protecting your mouth from gingivitis and other gum diseases, whilst also protecting your overall health from chemical detergents included in many commercial toothpastes.
